CDS took part in an extrication of a patient from an MVA in Apopa, north of San Salvador. Comando Carlos Rivas worked inside the cabin delicatley cutting away metal and debris that was trapping the patients legs while EMT’s Vanessa Martinez, Julio Cesar offered security and comfort to the anxious patient from the outside.
CDS first applied a c-collar to assure neutral position and did the best they could to place a seated backboard behind the patient in order to increase more stability of the spine. The patients lower left leg presented fractured so a splint was put in place to stabilize the tibia and fibia. The patient was then placed on a backboard after resecting him from the vehicle and he was transported with vitals and LOC being monitored.
