More than 500 plates of hot food were recieved by Salvadorans in the Bajo Lempa Communities of Zamorano and El Mario. The food was prepared and donated by the Señora cooks of the San Miguelito Market in San Salvador. Every year during the rainy season, these humble business owners take it upon themselves to organize a massive cookoff to help flood victims wherever they might be sheltered. The Comandos de Salvamento accompanies distribution of these prized plates of hot rice, beans, carne asada and tortillas. The institution also acts as a cultural mediator for those business leaders who want to express their solidarity by going to distribute the food themselves. The cooks also donated a piñata to meet the mental health needs of affected children so that they can have a sense of joy while placed in storm shelters. Foto: CDS
