Brayn Coreas, 23, is freed by Bomberos and later taken to San Bartolo Hospital.

Brayn Coreas, 23, a young volunteer with Comandos de Salvamento, responded to an emergency call about a traffic accident at kilometer 22½ of the Pan-American Highway, near San Pedro Perulapán.

He and three other rescuers were the first to arrive at the scene of the road crash and were evacuating the first passenger, who had been freed by members of the Comandos Rescue Unit. With the spirit that characterizes these young people in helping others, they set out for San Bartolo Hospital in Ilopango.

However, he never imagined that a reckless driver would force them off the road, despite the ambulance’s emergency lights and siren, as they had the sole objective of saving the life of the patient they were transporting inside the unit while the three rescuers attended to him.

Brayn Coreas lost control of the ambulance after it was struck by the vehicle and crashed into roadside trees. The three rescuers were injured and, despite this, attempted to assist their colleague, who was trapped among the unit’s twisted metal.

The victim lost his life inside the crashed ambulance. The young driver was freed and taken by colleagues from the Salvadorean Red Cross to San Bartolo Hospital. Hours later, he was transferred to Hospital Rosales, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Doctors at Hospital Rosales requested the assistance of 6 blood donors to operate on the young rescuer, who has already been stabilized at that medical center. Comandos de Salvamento thanks Bomberos, the Red Cross, and Cruz Verde, as well as the doctors at San Bartolo and Rosales Hospitals, for all the support provided to our colleague.

Ambulance that responded to the accident in San Pedro Perulapán was destroyed.
Driver and three Comandos de Salvamento rescuers were injured due to the irresponsibility of a reckless driver who fled the scene.
