Traffic accidents are a daily occurrence and, according to PNC statistics, more than 200 road accidents have already been recorded so far this year, putting emergency-response organizations on alert as they have to double their efforts to assist victims.
Comandos de Salvamento assisted motorcyclist José Antonio Molina, 29, this morning. He suffered several injuries when his motorcycle was struck on Calle Agua Caliente, where volunteers stabilized him and were taking him to a hospital when another emergency call was answered.
On the same Calle, but a few blocks farther ahead, the driver of a motorcycle had run over two elderly people who were trying to cross the roadway.
The incident occurred on Calle Agua Caliente, in front of Colonia Las Flores, where the elderly people reside. They were going to do their shopping when they tried to cross the roadway and were struck by the motorcyclist.
The victims were identified as Luis Antonio Burgos, 80, and María Julia Ruiz, 77. Both were taken to a medical facility.
It should be noted that, despite the warnings issued, recklessness, excessive speed, and failure to respect traffic signals are increasing the number of accidents day by day. These have already begun to bring mourning to Salvadoran households, as well as increasing expenses for emergency-response organizations in fuel and medical supplies used to stabilize victims.
Therefore, drivers are expected to become more aware, thereby increasing the number of collisions, fatalities, and injuries.
