During a meeting of the Board of Directors of Comandos de Salvamento, it was confirmed that only emergencies involving people who have been run over, traffic, workplace and household accidents, as well as pregnant women, will be attended to.
This is because volunteers from the different emergency-response organizations have already begun being called in to receive training from specialized personnel in the management of people suspected of having COVID-19, provided by representatives of the Medical Emergency System, SEM.
So far, 20 members of Comandos de Salvamento, the Red Cross and Cruz Verde have been trained so that they can become familiar with the special suits used to attend to patients with flu-like symptoms, colds, dry coughs, among other characteristics that may be suspicious and who must be referred to specialized centers.
The Board of Directors of Comandos de Salvamento has stated at all times that it is willing to collaborate with government authorities if they so require, provided that the volunteer agrees to be part of the contingent of young rescuers to be trained for that purpose. However, the volunteer must be of legal age and under 60 years old, and must not be a patient with chronic illnesses that could put their health at risk.
They encouraged their delegates to continue with the meetings of the municipal and civil protection commissions in order to provide information and guidance on COVID-19, since, out of the 3,065 people currently staying in the 68 quarantine centers, 13 have been determined to be patients who tested positive for the virus.
Comandos de Salvamento has asked Salvadorans through different media to stay home during this emergency.
