A woman died in a traffic accident that occurred at kilometer 69 of the Coastal Highway in the jurisdiction of Zacatecoluca, heading toward Usulután, where, in addition, 8 other people were injured due to the recklessness of a driver under the influence of alcohol, who was detained by the PNC.

Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, a member of the Tactical Team, and the Policía Nacional Civil assisted the victims of the traffic accident. The injured people were traveling from Usulután toward Nejapa when, upon reaching the bridge over Cantón La Lucha, the driver of a sedan-type automobile invaded the opposite lane, colliding head-on with two pickup trucks transporting people.

Concepción Pérez Velasco, 43, was traveling in the back of one of the pickups and was thrown into the air by the impact, dying instantly from the trauma sustained. Meanwhile, the other people were taken to Hospital Santa Teresa in Zacatecoluca by rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento branches in Zacatecoluca and Tecoluca, the Tactical Group, and the PNC.

The Policía Nacional Civil arrested César Iván Colocho Mejía, who was driving with more than 500 degrees of alcohol in his blood.

Statistics from the National Road Safety Observatory and the Fondo para la Atención de las Víctimas de Accidentes de Tránsito, FONAT, indicate that from January through November 2, approximately 1,042 people have died as a result of traffic accidents.

In addition, more than 15 traffic accidents were recorded, representing an increase compared with 2022. Drivers are therefore urged to obey traffic signs and speed limits, and to avoid distraction at the wheel, which are the main causes of traffic accidents.
