Wilber Enrique was a member of Comandos de Salvamento in Lourdes.

Wilber Enrique Sánchez Martínez, 23, died last Sunday during a rappelling exercise at Playa Escondida, located at kilometer 54 of Carretera Litoral, in Chiltiupán, La Libertad.

The young man had arrived early with his friends to practice descending and ascending on one of the cliffs at Playa Escondida. However, a strong wave swept the rescuer away, and he was lost among the waters.

The Salvadoran Air Force made two helicopters available, and the Naval Force provided two maritime units to search for the victim.

From that moment, the tactical personnel began searching for Wilber Enrique, requesting the support of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, where he had been a volunteer for two years at the Lourdes branch, La Libertad. In addition, he belonged to the Protección Civil Tactical Team in Nejapa.

Vertical and aquatic rescue teams from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, supported by Protección Civil, National Navy personnel, and the army, are searching for the young rescuer.
