After several hours of searching along the ravine where the water current swept away the young motorcyclist on Tuesday afternoon in the city of Santa Ana, near Aldea San Antonio, located along the Pan-American Highway.
Yesterday afternoon, two motorcyclists were swept away by the strong water current following the rain that battered part of the national territory. The young woman struggled for several minutes, but the rushing water carried her to an outlet leading to a ravine, where she disappeared.
Starting at around six in the afternoon, rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento, members of Municipal Protección Civil, the army, PNC, CAM agents, and other emergency-response teams began searching for the woman.
However, once the early morning hours arrived, the search efforts were suspended due to poor visibility and the rugged terrain, with an agreement to resume operations in the early hours of this Wednesday.
The search groups were distributed across several locations in order to conduct a general search and locate the young woman. At around nine-thirty in the morning, Comandos de Salvamento of Santa Ana and the Red Cross managed to locate the body among branches that had been swept away by the water current in the Santa Lucía ravine, specifically behind the Río Zarco coffee mill, in Santa Ana,
The deceased motorcyclist was identified as Erika Mena, 33, a resident of Caserío El Sitio, Cantón Comecayo, Santa Ana, and her body was located six kilometers from where the tragedy occurred.
The volunteers recovered the body and brought it to solid ground so that it could be identified by judicial and police authorities.
