Members of the Vertical Rescue Unit of Comandos de Salvamento assisted around noon today a senior citizen who fell into an underground cable-wiring pit in the historic center of San Salvador.

The octogenarian was walking along Calle Gerardo Barrios in front of El Calvario Church in San Salvador when he lost his balance and fell into the underground cable-wiring pit. Rescuers therefore had to stabilize him and perform maneuvers to bring him to the surface, where rescuers and SEM personnel provided him with assistance.

The victim was identified as Maximiliano Martínez, 85, who suffered trauma to various parts of his body after falling from a height of approximately three meters.

SEM members transported him to the emergency room at Rosales Hospital.
