Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador has alerted its branches nationwide to take the necessary measures ahead of the arrival of Tropical Storm Cristina in the coming hours.

The executive director of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador met with the Departmental Governor and other immediate-response entities to make rescue teams available in case evacuations are needed.

Roberto Cruz, executive director of Comandos de Salvamento, states that the alert order has already been issued at all branches so they can call in their volunteers, who will be ready to respond to emergencies in vulnerable areas of the municipality.

The rains, which could intensify with the arrival of Tropical Storm Cristina, also fueled by Storm Boris, would increase the amount of rainfall in the national territory.

Therefore, it is urgent that all branches have volunteer personnel available because of the emergency declared by the Protección Civil authorities, who raised the yellow alert to orange.

The rains in recent hours have affected several residents of Barrio Las Atarrayas, in the district of Acajutla, where elderly people and children have been taken to safe areas by the municipality’s authorities.

The Ministry of Education announced the suspension of classes for Tuesday the 9th and Wednesday the 10th because of Tropical Storm Cristina.

Also this afternoon, rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador assisted a man who fell from the roof of a home in Barrio La Palma, Santiago Nonualco, which he was repairing amid the constant rains.

The victim was taken to a medical center for the trauma he sustained.

Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador asks the public to remain alert and seek safe places in the event of flooding or landslides.

In case of emergency, call 2133-0000.
