Early this morning, members of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, the Naval Force, Policía Nacional Civil, and the Acajutla Metropolitan Agents Corps evacuated several families affected by flooding in Acajutla, Sonsonate.
The incident occurred due to the obstruction of rainwater pipes on the Main Street of Colonia Brisas del Pacífico, in Caserío La Nueva Acajutla, in the Department of Sonsonate, at around one in the morning, following the heavy rain that affected the area.
Rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, together with members of the National Navy, arrived at the site to evacuate older adults and minors, who were taken to safe areas under the care of the PNC and the CAM.
Among the people affected are Rosa María Escobar Lemus, Ana Vilma Escobar, 72; Yesenia Marisol Huezo Orellana, 50; and Camila Estefania Beltrán Escobar, 7.
The four people were taken to the Acajutla Health Unit to receive a medical checkup and later be taken to safe homes.
The minor and her grandmother, Rosa María Escobar Lemus, were sheltered in the home of a nearby family.
The rains have already left two people dead, identified as Josué Hernández, 13, and Rosy Magaly, 17, who lost their lives when a stone wall collapsed onto their home, located in Barrio El Ángel, on Meanguera Island, in the Department of La Unión.
