In the serious traffic accident, the truck driver identified as Nelson Arias, 52, lost his life while rescuers attempted to free him from the twisted metal, while his companion was freed and transported to a medical center with trauma to his lower limbs.

The other injured people were passengers on the public transportation vehicle who were assisted by units of the Policía Nacional Civil and other emergency-response agencies.

Comandos de Salvamento and Cruz Verde used hydraulic equipment to free the body of Mr. Nelson Arias so that it could be identified by authorities from Legal Medicine, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Police.
