TAXI DRIVER RUNS OVER ELDERLY PEOPLE, ONE DIED

An elderly couple was run over this morning by a taxi driver on Alameda Juan Pablo II in front of the General Social Security Hospital, when they were attempting to cross the thoroughfare.

The spouses Román Tobías and Ligia Esperanza Vides de Tobías, both 75, were leaving the Social Security Hospital after attending a medical appointment when they attempted to cross Alameda and were run over by a taxi driver who fled the scene. However, the police confirmed that the reckless driver had been detained while attempting to flee.

Comandos de Salvamento of Ilopango responded to kilometer 13 and a half of Carretera Panamericana, near San Martín, where a vehicle ran over a pedestrian.

Rescuers arrived at the scene and confirmed that Daysi Murillo, 58, had died from the trauma suffered in the impact caused by the vehicle, whose driver fled the scene.
