In the early hours of this morning, Comandos de Salvamento rescuers, together with those from other emergency-response organizations in El Salvador, arrived in Guatemala to place themselves at the service and disposal of any operations to which they may be assigned.
Comandos de Salvamento sent 30 personnel to Guatemala and Honduras, specialized in vertical rescue, swift-water rescue, and confined spaces—highly qualified personnel who have already participated in other countries, such as Ecuador and Mexico, affected by powerful earthquakes.
Now, in Guatemala, they will be assigned to search for and rescue victims left by the extensive damage caused by the heavy rains brought by Eta.
The Salvadoran Government also sent 30 additional food packages as part of the assistance involving both rescue personnel and doctors.
This morning, the first meeting was held to coordinate the work of rescuers and doctors in the affected areas.
