Members of the Comandos de Salvamento Rescue Unit carried out evacuations in Colonia Santa Lucía, in Ilopango, following the severe storm that struck the capital city.

Torrential rains affected the drainage system at the entrance to Colonia Santa Lucía in Ilopango, where it became necessary to bring at least three elderly people to safety because their homes were already flooded. They were taken to stay with other relatives in safe areas.

At first, a cameraman from a local news program had become trapped inside his vehicle while traveling along the main avenue of Colonia Santa Lucía. Minutes later, he was assisted by Cruz Roja rescuers.

Families affected by the poor rainwater drainage system suffered losses to their household belongings; some sought a way to go stay with relatives to protect their children.

Comandos de Salvamento remained in the area to see whether there were more victims, but the rain had stopped.

Residents of Colonia Santa Lucía observe damage caused by the flooding.
Vehicles were nearly covered by the stagnant water.
