Protección Civil authorities awarded the “Protección Civil 2019” medal to Claudia Altamirano, as a posthumous recognition following the death of Comandos de Salvamento rescuer Irving Altamirano, who devoted 10 years to humanitarian service.
Irving Altamirano, a young man who joined Comandos de Salvamento at an early age alongside two other brothers, performed noble work as a first responder and both a vertical and vehicle rescuer. The latter was one of his passions, as he was among the first to board the rescue unit to assist victims trapped in traffic collisions.
A young man devoted to serving others, he dedicated most of his free time to being ready in his uniform for any intervention. However, fate dealt him a cruel hand: at 19, he died of cardiorespiratory arrest, leaving a baby orphaned.
Now, the Dirección de Protección Civil paid a well-deserved tribute to this young fighter and volunteer who gave 10 years of his life in service to those most in need.
