Comandos in Financial Crisis

This post is also available in: Spanish Norwegian Bokmål French Chinese (Simplified) Japanese

During 2018, Comandos de Salvamento suffered a setback when $95,000 was cut from a subsidy allocated by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance, causing a series of difficulties in concluding the year with financial solvency and units in good condition.

Due to the subsidy cut, Comandos de Salvamento is experiencing serious difficulties purchasing fuel for its ambulances, since the number of emergencies nationwide has increased in recent months, which means greater gasoline and diesel expenses, as well as the purchase of supplies used to respond to emergencies handled daily.

However, members of the Comandos de Salvamento Board of Directors received promises from some parliamentary groups that the subsidy cut would be reinstated for 2019, but they remained only promises, since the adjustment that legislators of the Legislative Assembly had committed to was not obtained.

For 2019, Comandos de Salvamento will need to request assistance from altruistic individuals in order to provide emergency care, which is completely free, except in cases of social services, from which a contribution is requested to cover the ambulance’s fuel costs.
