27 young volunteers from the various branches of Comandos de Salvamento graduated as members of the Vehicle Rescue Unit.
Rescuers who, for several weekends, left their families and entertainment behind to undergo rigorous physical and theoretical tests in order to become part of this unit, whose members specialize in handling hydraulic equipment to rescue victims of traffic accidents and people who are trapped.
It should be noted that 7 young women managed to pass this test with great sacrifice and thus join the rescuers of people, especially when they are trapped among the twisted metal of the vehicles involved. These young women demonstrated their courage and that nothing is impossible when it comes to helping others.
Katy Graciela Gómez, a rescuer with Comandos de Salvamento from the Apopa branch, at just 16 years of age, passed all the tests and was one of the best-performing young women in the final stage, obtaining her diploma and certification accrediting her as a new rescuer.
In this way, more than 20 branches of Comandos de Salvamento will have specialized personnel to handle extrications in road collisions, which have increased in recent days and intensify during the Christmas and New Year season.
Special thanks to the team of volunteer trainers, technicians, administrative staff, delegates, Board of Directors, and Ayuda Popular Noruega, the funder of this type of training.
