Comandos de Salvamento personnel arrive at a shelter in La Libertad.

Comandos de Salvamento will maintain its nationwide alert despite the fact that the rains have stopped for the moment, due to the weakening of Storm Amanda, which is leaving through Mexico toward the Atlantic Ocean.

This will bring relief to the more than 20 people who have been affected by the passage of Storm Amanda through El Salvador, which also left more than 15 dead and at least 6 missing, as well as extensive material damage.

In addition, a series of roads have been damaged by Storm Amanda, including the stretch from Quezaltepeque to San Juan Opico, where a sinkhole formed; the Pan-American Highway near Ceiba de Guadalupe, in Antiguo Cuscatlán; and other important routes.

However, the formation of a new tropical depression announced by authorities from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, which could arrive between Thursday and Friday, makes it necessary not to let our guard down in vulnerable areas of the country. Therefore, Comandos de Salvamento has called on its delegates and operational personnel to remain on alert for any emergency.

People living in critical areas are urged to get to safety and not wait until the last minute to evacuate, since the amount of water in the soil creates a greater danger if the rains continue. In case of emergency, call 2133-0000 or seek out Municipal Protección Civil.

Caseríos in Zacatecoluca have been affected by Storm Amanda.
