Volunteers from Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador remain in a state of emergency following the latest statement issued by Protección Civil authorities, which maintains the red alert in the municipalities of Tecoluca, in the Department of San Vicente.
In addition, in Jiquilisco and Puerto El Triunfo, in Usulután, the authorities added that the orange alert will remain in the Department of Chalatenango, where several families were evacuated due to the threat posed by the rains.
In response, Comandos de Salvamento has ordered its 30 sectional offices not to lower the alert level, while also asking its delegates to remain in contact with their rescuers so they can respond to any emergency that may arise from the rains, which could continue in the coming hours.
The accumulation of water can cause landslides and endanger the lives of people residing along ravines and near embankments. For this reason, the various municipal Protección Civil Committees have begun holding meetings with the different emergency-response organizations that make up Protección Civil.
Roberto Cruz, Executive Director of Comandos de Salvamento, is calling on the public to remain alert and seek the safest locations whenever families’ lives may be at risk. They have made the telephone number 2133-0000 available.
