Volunteers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, Popotlán branch, are working with the Health Unit in that area to combat the larvae of the mosquitoes that transmit dengue, Zika, and chikungunya through fumigation campaigns being carried out in the Valle Verde 1 and 2 neighborhoods of Apopa.
Authorities from the Ministry of Public Health began fumigation campaigns several days ago, concluding this May 4 in 192 municipalities throughout the country. The campaigns aim to combat mosquito larvae, as more than 1,300 suspected cases of dengue, more than 20 of Zika, and 10 of chikungunya have already been recorded this year.
The volunteers from Comandos de Salvamento de Popotlán, together with the Valle Verde Youth Association, inmates in the trust phase, and Municipal Risk Management, are supporting the Popotlán Health Unit to effectively carry out the fumigation campaign.
The visits are conducted house by house in the Valle Verde 1 and 2 neighborhoods of Apopa, where water tanks, barrels, and containers used to store water will be inspected in order to destroy mosquito larvae and thereby prevent more cases of dengue, Zika, or chikungunya.
