Tropical Storm Bonnie, as it passed through El Salvador, alerted all rescue agencies, the Armed Forces, Protección Civil, Bomberos and Comandos de Salvamento, after causing serious damage to main arteries, as well as flooding in residential areas and communities and fallen trees at various points throughout the country.
On Los Próceres Boulevard, the force of the water damaged the asphalt surface, causing damage to several vehicles, as the amount of rain made visibility on the artery impossible. However, only material damage was reported.
Since the afternoon, the strong storm, accompanied by winds, knocked down trees in Quezaltepeque, Nejapa and other municipalities in the country. At a home in Cantón Primavera Abajo, in the area known as La Quinta, in Quezaltepeque, Comandos de Salvamento rescuers evacuated the affected family and removed the hazard after a tree fell onto a home, with no personal injuries reported.
In Nejapa, three trees gave way to the force of the winds accompanying Tropical Storm Bonnie. One was on the street in front of Quintas de San Antonio, and another was reported in Colonia San Felipe, where a tree had fallen onto a home.
In addition, a tree fell onto electrical lines on Calle vieja. In all these locations, volunteers from Comandos de Salvamento de Nejapa worked together with Municipal Protección Civil to remove the trees and reopen the pedestrian and vehicular passage.
In Usulután, Comandos de Salvamento rescuers cleared a leafy tree that obstructed the road leading from the Municipio of Alegría to the lagoon, reopening the passage hours later.
This Sunday, although Tropical Storm Bonnie has moved away from the country, light to moderate rain is expected in the western area and along the country’s coastline, so people are urged to remain alert to any unusual situation.
In case of emergency, call 2133-0000.
