Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador rescue a driver on Calle 5 de Noviembre.

Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador assisted more than 15 people on Tuesday night who had been trapped in their homes and vehicles after trees fell on them along Calle 5 de Noviembre in San Salvador. The trees were knocked down by the wind gusts accompanying the passage of the tropical wave.

Nine people were removed from homes where they had been trapped after trees fell, destroying part of the roofs and obstructing entry to and exit from the houses. Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, together with Municipal Protección Civil, evacuated the families to safer areas amid the heavy storm.

Eight more people were rescued from vehicles that were damaged when trees and utility poles fell onto them, complicating the rescue of the occupants so they could be brought to safety.

The two occupants of a minibus were freed after power was suspended in the Calle 5 de Noviembre area.

Other vehicles were covered by the branches of trees that gave way to the strong winds.

Another affected area was Colonia Médica, where trees also fell along 25ª. Avenida Sur near Parque Cuscatlán; the trees gave way to the force of the winds.
