This afternoon, a person died beneath the debris of a landslide that collapsed onto the Pan-American Highway near the Los Chorros Turicentro, when the driver of a vehicle was buried. This is the second incident recorded in less than a week.
Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador arrived at the scene of the tragedy and verified the vital signs of the automobile’s driver, who had been partially buried by the landslide of earth, rocks, and trees that struck part of the vehicle’s cabin.
Minutes later, rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador, using hydraulic equipment, managed to free him and place him in a safe area so that he could be examined by judicial and police authorities.
Last Tuesday, a landslide nearly in the same area damaged two vehicles; however, their occupants were treated for minor injuries after colliding with the landslide, while other people were treated for nervous breakdowns caused by the incident that nearly cost them their lives.
Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador asks people traveling to the western part of the country to seek other alternatives or routes in order to travel, since the constant rains and accumulation of water weaken vulnerable areas in the Los Chorros zone.
