COMANDOS DE SALVAMENTO 62 YEARS SERVING THE SALVADORAN PEOPLE

62 years ago, a group of altruistic lifeguards decided to establish a new organization that would provide free pre-hospital care services to Salvadoran people. Thus, on September 30, in a humble little house in Ciudad Delgado, Mr. Edgar Cornejo and his group of friends founded the Asociación Comandos de Salvamento Guardavidas Independientes de El Salvador, A.S.G.I.
That is where operations began, with funds collected from people who also wished to help, others who donated their time, and some who made their vehicles available to transport patients to hospitals. Comandos de Salvamento had no resources, but it did have a great vocation for serving others. Thus, we have been present in every emergency situation our country has experienced, whether natural or caused by people.
We have been present, helping our Salvadoran brothers and sisters during earthquakes, the civil war in El Salvador, tropical storms, hurricanes, and traffic accidents, helping our brothers and sisters safeguard their lives and property. Proud of the work we have carried out, this anniversary is for us a date to commemorate our work and that of many colleagues who lost their lives in fulfilling our mission as an institution—that is, saving the lives of our people and providing assistance when they need us most.
This weekend, Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador celebrated its anniversary in grand style, with the presence of international and special guests who were recognized for their noble support of the institution.
Members of the World Academy of Firefighters of New York, including Lieutenant General Juan Gutiérrez and Ramona Torres, attended, along with its International Queen, Cristina Soriano. Members of the International Mission of Comandos de Salvamento from New York and North Carolina also came to celebrate with the volunteers. Likewise, members of the International Mission of Comandos de Salvamento from Los Angeles, California, joined from afar.
Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador will continue providing its services to Salvadorans in emergencies, always counting on the support of President Nayib Bukele and his Ministers, who respond to the institution’s call.
