Emergency responders from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador attended a traffic accident this afternoon that occurred at kilometer 18 of the highway to El Salvador International Airport, when the driver of a vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree in the central median.

The people were traveling in an all-terrain vehicle when, upon reaching the location, the vehicle’s driver lost control, veering off the roadway and crashing into a tree. Members of the Vehicle Rescue Unit of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador worked for several minutes to free the injured people.

Mr. José Félix Hernández, 75, who was traveling as a passenger, died in the traffic accident. Meanwhile, Mrs. Inés Pérez de Hernández, 63, who sustained trauma to her lower limbs, was admitted to Hospital Rosales.

Another injured person was identified as Johan Pérez, 18, who was admitted to Hospital Rosales in San Salvador due to his injuries.

The vehicle’s driver was identified as Rogel Wilfredo Ascencio, 29, who had only lacerations and was therefore treated by emergency responders from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador at the accident scene.

José Félix Hernández’s body was freed from among the twisted metal by members of the Vehicle Rescue Unit, who used hydraulic equipment to place it on solid ground and have it identified by the corresponding authorities.
