Rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento and Protección Civil begin rescue efforts.

Members of the Vertical Rescue Unit and Medical Unit of Comandos de Salvamento carried out the rescue this Sunday morning of a man who had fallen onto the banks of the Tomayate River the previous Saturday night.
The victim, identified as 33-year-old Walberto Divier Vásquez, an independent worker at the Apopa Municipal Slaughterhouse, had fallen into the Tomayate River on Saturday night, apparently while intoxicated.
Bystanders notified the authorities that a man’s body was in the river, prompting a request for the intervention of Comandos de Salvamento and other first-response institutions, which undertook the vertical rescue operation.
With the help of ropes and harnesses, the rescuers crossed the river to bring the victim to safety. He was semiconscious and was initially taken to be evaluated by Fosalud doctors in Apopa, from where he was referred minutes later to Zacamil Hospital because of the trauma he had sustained.
