Responders from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador rescued two people this afternoon who had fallen into ravines under different circumstances.

One of the cases occurred on the Calle from Zacatecoluca to Tecoluca, in the Departamento of La Paz, where the motorcyclist identified as Pedro Villalta Alfaro, 44, lost control of his vehicle and fell to the bottom of the ravine known as El Mango, located in Cantón El Espino, just a few meters from the maximum-security prison.

Members of the Vertical Rescue Unit of Comandos de Salvamento de Zacatecoluca began stabilizing the victim and were subsequently supported by personnel from the Cuerpo de Bomberos Nacionales to carry out the vertical rescue of the victim.

The motorcyclist suffered trauma to his right lower limb and various parts of his body, as the ravine is six meters deep. The victim was taken to Hospital Santa Teresa.

Meanwhile, the second victim was reported in Colonia Brisas de Candelaria, in Antiguo Cuscatlán, where a young man identified as Rodrigo Alejandro Trejo, 19, had fallen to the bottom of the ravine known as El Garrobo, approximately fifty meters deep.

However, the young man had become trapped among rocks and trees about fifteen meters down, making it necessary to use personnel from the Vertical Rescue Unit, who used special equipment to bring the victim safely to solid ground; he had suffered some minor trauma.

The causes of the incident and how he fell into the ravine are unknown.

Pedro Villalta Alfaro was admitted to Hospital Santa Teresa, in Zacatecoluca.
