In view of the constant rains affecting the national territory, the executive directorate of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador has requested that its delegations nationwide call in personnel to remain on alert.
The Protección Civil authorities have declared a green alert throughout the country due to the passage of Tropical Storm Sara, which formed in the waters of the Atlantic and has already caused damage in the northern part of the national territory.
In the Departamento of Morazán, a bridge located over the Grande River, in the Municipio of San Francisco de Orica, gave way as its flow increased, leaving this sector cut off.
Volunteers from Comandos de Salvamento of Sonsonate conducted a tour of the streets of Colonia Sedan Poniente, near 10th Avenida Norte, along the road from Sonzacate to downtown Sonsonate, where the roadway was flooded, with no victims reported in the area.
Protección Civil has asked rescue services to remain on alert due to the rains, which could continue through Monday. Sara has already caused serious damage in the neighboring republic of Honduras. In Nicaragua, more than 2,000 people have been affected.
Sara has also generated cloud cover, which is why Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador is asking drivers not to exceed the permitted speed limits and residents of highly vulnerable areas to remain vigilant for landslides, the danger posed by trees near homes, and especially rising rivers or streams.
In case of emergency, call 2133-0000.
