Eighty young rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador were selected to carry the patron saint’s shrine of residents of the capital, the Divino Salvador del Mundo, as part of the August festivities.
Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador carries the shrine for one block, with eighty of its male and female volunteers. In addition, the rest of the rescuers provide prehospital security to the worshippers attending the procession and the patron saint’s transfiguration ceremony in front of the Metropolitan Cathedral.
More than 200 members of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador were distributed along Calle Rubén Darío, along which the image of the Divino Salvador del Mundo traveled.
Approximately 20 ambulances were distributed along the route at strategic points in case of an emergency, with personnel specialized in prehospital care.
The Board of Directors and Executive Directorate requested the presence of the participating rescuers early this Monday so they could carry out the procession’s security plan. The volunteers enjoyed lunch at the central headquarters and then traveled to the church of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, from which the liturgical ceremony departed.

A tradition: Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador are chosen by the Catholic Church to carry the image of the Divino Salvador del Mundo.
