Volunteers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador assist residents of San Lorenzo, in Ahuachapán.

Volunteers from the Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador branches in the western region of the country remain on alert due to the seismic activity affecting the Department of Ahuachapán, which so far has left nearly three hundred homes damaged.

Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador sent personnel during the first days of the seismic activity to help people who experienced health problems and were treated at the scene, especially in the area of San Lorenzo, where several families have had to seek shelter elsewhere due to damage to their homes.

So far, the seismic swarms have exceeded 400 telluric movements, two of them measuring more than 5.3 and 5.1 in magnitude, which alerted the population last January 15. Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador activated its branches to remain on alert in case of a larger-scale event.

Branches such as Santa Ana, Sonsonate, Juayúa, El Congo, Ciudad Arce, Zapotitán, Tepecoyo, Sacacoyo, among others, are keeping their personnel ready to act in any circumstance that may occur due to the seismic swarm affecting the Department of Ahuachapán.

People have sought other places due to damage to their homes.
Nearly 300 homes have been affected by the seismic movements.
Children seek safe places during the tremors.
