Early this morning, 6 families nearly lost their lives when part of a street in Passage A of Colonia Saprisa in Ciudad Delgado collapsed onto the Northern Trunk Highway at kilometer five and a half.
At around three in the morning, residents heard a loud crash and, when they went outside, saw part of the street sliding onto the homes below. There was only material damage.
Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador dispatched emergency brigades to check for victims, but none were reported. They therefore coordinated with the authorities to seek the necessary assistance for the families affected by the landslide, which has damaged at least 6 homes.
So far, the affected people have been accommodated among neighbors and others with nearby relatives.
Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador is keeping its personnel on alert because rainfall will continue in the coming hours, which has led Protección Civil authorities to declare a Red Alert in part of the national territory.
Therefore, residents living in vulnerable areas are advised to remain vigilant and seek safe places.
In the eastern part of the country, brigades from Comandos de Salvamento de Alegría removed a tree that had obstructed part of the highway after last night’s heavy rain. Likewise, in Zacatecoluca, Comandos de Salvamento rescuers helped remove another tree.
