This September 30, Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador reaches 61 years of service to the population. It all began in Ciudad Delgado, where a group of young lifeguards embarked on this adventure, which has borne fruit today.
Men and women who have dedicated their time to serving others regardless of their race, religion, or political creed, simply possessing a heart willing to help without expecting any reward other than the Divine one.
Those young Comandos de Salvamento volunteers are thanked for every minute and every effort they contribute to the institution, which, through many sacrifices, has reached 61 years of humanitarian service. Providing coverage since 1965, during the May 3 earthquake, they later traveled to Guatemala to help with rescue efforts after the earthquake that destroyed the neighboring country.
They also participated in the 100-hour war with nurses who treated the injured, while Hurricane Fifi was another significant event in which Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador said, “We are present.”
These have been years of helping the population, including destruction caused by hurricanes Mitch, Ida, and others, as well as the earthquakes of October 10, 1986, and the two in 2001, when they rescued and recovered several Salvadorans in Colonia Las Colinas.
During the armed conflict experienced by the country, Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador were called Anonymous Heroes because of their high spirit of humanitarian service, eventually being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Today, at 61 years, Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador thanks every person, organization, and private company for the support they have provided for the institution’s proper operation. It also thanks the various fire departments and altruistic people in the United States, while recognizing the contribution of the Government of President Nayib Bukele through the Ministry of Health, and that of the sister organization Norwegian People’s Aid, APN.
