Mario Durán, Mayor of San Salvador, hosted a reception for rescuers from the different emergency response organizations, including Comandos de Salvamento, Protección Civil, Cruz Verde, and stretcher bearers, whom he treated to dinner to commemorate International Rescuers’ Day.

Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador is a public-service organization that for more than 60 years has provided assistance to victims of natural disasters, disasters caused by humans, and workplace and traffic accidents. Its main foundation is its volunteer rescuers, who offer their services and knowledge without expecting a reward.

Mario Durán, who was Minister of the Interior, is familiar with the work of Comandos de Salvamento, since during the landslides in Nejapa and Santo Tomás he worked shoulder to shoulder with the rescuers in recovering survivors and deceased victims.

For that reason, and for the first time in history, the current mayor of San Salvador, Mario Durán, offered recognition to the men and women who every day risk their lives to help others.

Mario Durán congratulates the volunteers of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador.
