Comandos de Salvamento collaborated this morning with several families from Residencial Santa Lucía, in Ilopango, who abandoned their homes, which are threatened by a huge sinkhole that has put the lives of more than one hundred families at risk.
Rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento arrived early in the morning to help the families rescue their belongings so they could be transported by personnel from the Ministry of Public Works to other areas.
The sinkhole has reached a very large size in recent hours, and the rains falling over Salvadoran territory further complicate the situation of the residents of Residencial Santa Lucía, who have requested to be relocated to prevent tragedies.
Authorities of the Ilopango Municipal Government have opened the gymnasium of Colonia Santa Lucía, as well as the John F. Kennedy School.
Comandos de Salvamento will keep personnel in the area for the duration of the emergency, as Protección Civil authorities have declared a Red Alert in that area.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Zone of the country, there is an orange alert in San Miguel and Usulután, specifically in Bajo Lempa, since the rains could affect the area through Wednesday due to a low-pressure system in the Pacific and another in the Atlantic, associated with the Intertropical Convergence Zone
