Members of the Board of Directors of Comandos de Salvamento ratified the agreements recently reached, in which they state that Comandos de Salvamento will only respond to people struck by vehicles, traffic, workplace, and household accidents, as well as rescues.
Suspected cases of COVID-19, such as coughing, runny nose, nasal congestion, headaches, sore throat, fatigue, or difficulty breathing, will not be attended to, since the only ones authorized to carry out such patient transfers are the Sistema de Emergencias Médicas, SEM, as stated by the President of the Republic of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele.
This measure was taken to protect the volunteer personnel who are part of Comandos de Salvamento. The recommendation has been issued to the heads of each of the 29 branches that young rescuers under 18 years of age, as well as those over 60, will not be permitted.
Members of the Board of Directors of Comandos de Salvamento stated that they are available to work with Health authorities if required, provided that the personnel are trained and equipped to respond to the COVID-19 emergency.
They also issued an urgent appeal to private companies to donate supplies that would enable them to respond to this emergency, such as gasoline and protective equipment, among other items.
