The alarm sounded at one-thirty in the morning this Wednesday, requesting assistance on the highway from Sonsonate to San Salvador, at the Izalco detour, where a traffic accident had occurred.
The rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, Sonsonate branch, traveled to the area, where they found that the tractor-trailer had already caught fire in the cab and that the driver was inside it.
The volunteers acted quickly to rescue the driver, who was identified as 61-year-old Ranses Alexis Kleimi Cornejo. He lost control of the tractor-trailer and crashed into the road dividers, causing one of the diesel tanks to catch fire.
Ranses Alexis Kleimi Cornejo experienced moments of anguish. He stated that, due to the trauma he suffered, he briefly lost consciousness, and when he tried to react, the flames were already engulfing the cab.
Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador managed to rescue the driver in time. He had first- and second-degree burns on several parts of his body and was therefore taken urgently to the Sonsonate Social Security hospital.
Elements of the Cuerpo de Bomberos arrived in the area to try to control the flames, which almost completely consumed the tractor unit and its container, with support from the volunteers of Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador.
