Two young brothers lost their lives Thursday afternoon at the place known as La Cascada de Huizúcar, where they were from.
The Ortiz Cruz brothers, aged 15 and 17, agreed to go enjoy the waterfalls after receiving their diplomas at Centro Escolar Huizúcar, where they studied.
Rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento de El Salvador, Antiguo Cuscatlán station, were alerted that the young men had disappeared after entering the pool to bathe. However, neither of them resurfaced, and local residents reported that they had sunk into the depths of one of the pools.
Rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento and the Cuerpo de Bomberos arrived to begin the search for Jonatan Moisés and Josué Leonardo, aged 17 and 15, respectively.
Minutes later, the students’ bodies were located and brought onto solid ground so they could be identified by officials from Legal Medicine, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the PNC, and subsequently handed over to their parents, who were devastated by the tragedy, as they were unable to enjoy their academic achievements.
