Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador, San Martín branch, recovered the body of a young woman who died during the passage of Tropical Storm Bonnie on Saturday night in San Martín.

Relatives of Maura Carolina Beltrán, 24, stated that the young woman worked at a pupusería in Colonia Santa María #2, near the park, when, due to the torrential rain, the storm drain became clogged and threatened to cause the business to flood. She decided to try to unclog the drain when the force of the water submerged her.

People tried to help her so that she could resurface, but due to the force of the water, it was impossible.

Rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador used special ropes to pull out the young woman, but she no longer showed vital signs. She was therefore taken to a safe area so that the judicial and police authorities, as well as the Institute of Legal Medicine, could carry out the legally required examination.

Meanwhile, volunteers from Comandos de Salvamento traveled to other communities and neighborhoods that were affected by Tropical Storm Bonnie, which has already moved away from the Salvadoran coast.

However, it could still generate isolated rainfall in the western and coastal areas of the country, so the public is urged to remain alert to the Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador delegations in Sonsonate, Santa Ana, La Liberta and La Paz.

Rescuers from Comandos de Salvamento of El Salvador recovered the young woman’s body so that it could be examined by the authorities.
