Members of the Comandos de Salvamento Board of Directors ratified the agreement recently reached, under which only traffic accidents, injured persons, pregnancies, and other cases will be attended, as part of the safety measures adopted to protect volunteers.
They indicated that patients suspected of having coronavirus should not be attended, since the provisions of the Government of President Nayib Bukele are being followed. These state that the only ones authorized to provide care to people suspected of having COVID-19 are the Medical Emergency System, SEM, which has special suits to prevent contagion.
In addition, it was agreed that volunteers under 18, as well as those over 60, may not serve as rescuers, and they are urged to stay home to avoid becoming victims of coronavirus.
Therefore, the Comandos de Salvamento Board of Directors asks those responsible for each delegation to take this agreement into account. However, it requested that they work hand in hand with the municipal commissions of Protección Civil to coordinate COVID-19 outreach and prevention efforts.
Finally, it affirmed its commitment to respond to any call from the Central Government to address the emergency, provided that guarantees are available for volunteer personnel and the necessary protective equipment.
