CDS offers community support by transporting patients from their homes to a clinic, or from one hospital to another.  CDS accepts cash collaborative fees from patient family members or friends that are used to buy gas for the ambulances, and in some cases, meals for the EMS brigade that is doing the transport.  The person’s collaboration is tax exempt and they receive a receipt from the institution.

CDS always takes into account the safety of the public.  This photograph illustrates an evacuation of children from a school in Ciudad Delgado.  There was a street disturbance between sellers that were protesting in front of the mayors municipal office, and the police that were trying to remove them.  The protest ended without any large problems and the police did not use any tear gas.  Photo: Francisco Campos

EMS crews from Comandos de Salvamento were alert this last Saturday during an organized event by the FMLN in support of President elect of Honduras Mel Zelaya.  CDS maintains a presence during events where there is a large concentration of people.  During these events, there are always cases such as high blood pressure, dehydration and/or sincope.  The purpose is to offer first aid to such symptomology.
