Comandos de Salvamento in collaboration with the Salvadoran Air Force rescued three people this Sunday from isolated zones around Lake Ilopango. Patients included a male with an injured leg, an intoxicated individual and a patient suffering from acute dehydration. All were transported after airlift via Ambulance by CDS.

The Comandos also offered Medical Brigades to Paraíso de Osorio and the small village of El Sauce. This Monday they will go to Verapaz and Nueva Guadalupe to assist and help victims and refugees of Tropical storm Ida.

Careless Accidents

22 year old Eduardo Martínez, was talking on his cell phone when he crashed according to police.
Many accidents are caused from careless actions of drivers in El Salvador as in other parts of the world. The most common causes are drunk driving, chatting or talking via cell phone, driving at high speeds or while tired.  On October 23rd, two drivers were gravely injured due to these same causes. Because of this, one of mottos the Comandos use is “Daddy drive safely, we are waiting for you at home”. This is a strong cultural metaphor to impress the importance of drivers to be safe since Salvadorans are very “pegados” and interdependent within their families. The saying is, “Papito maneja con cuidado, te esperamos en casa”.

Drugs and Alcohol

The transport of intoxicated patients is a common duty that CDS does to offer support to patients and families.  Family members and friends of these types of patients should accompany their loved ones to the psychiatric hospital with CDS.  On many occasions, patients can turn violent due to drugs and alcohol consumed and it helps to have family members and friends there to assist EMS staff.
