CDS Medical Brigades traveled to the areas of Puerto Parada and Berlin in the dept. of Usulután to offer medical consults to those affected by tropical storm 12E. Flooding in these areas have affected those communities by damaging their homes and increasing the risk of illness. The Comandos did general health consults in the community center of Berlin and also El Icaco where many patients came from outlying smaller communities that are called cantones in Spanish. More than 500 patients were prescribed medications. Peoples Popular Aid of Norway sponsored the medications at a cost of more than 5,ooo$ and CDS is thankful for this collaboration to help meet the needs of Salvadorans. Fotos: CDS

Children’s Museum Staff Visits Bajo Lempa
The Tin Marin Childrens Museum located in Cuscatlan Park in San Salvador decided to send some staff members accompanied by Comandos de Salvamento to entertain children affected by flooding in Bajo Lempa. The entertainment took place in the shelter of San Juan del Gozo. Piñata breaking and face painting took place after 400 small toys were given out. CDS supports such endeavors since it addresses the mental health needs of those that have lost homes and belongings to natural disaster flooding. Salvadorans are one of the most resilient people in the world, and usually bounce right back to normal life fairly quickly. These events augment this process of recovery. Comandos Medical Brigades plan on doing visits over the next few days to prevent possible epidemics and mitigate negative physical and mental health symptoms as a result of the disaster. Children with Hope in Shelters
On Sunday October 16th 2011, Comandos de Salvamento joined forces with Radio Corporación FM employees to hand out donated clothing, food and water at emergency shelter Centro Escolar Profesora Evangelina Alvarez in the neighborhood San Juan de Dios in the town of Olocuilta . Since radio continues to be the most efficient means of communicating rapid grassroots mobilization in El Salvador, Radio FM’s listening audience donated much needed supplies for displaced families caused by the recent tropical rain storm that has drenched El Salvador over the last few weeks.
