San Miguelito, a neighborhood just north of down down San Salvador is known for its local Market. Anything can be bought there, from fresh flowers, piñatas, bridal dresses to fish or poultry. The female workers of the San Miguelito Market have shown their solidarity with the people of El Salvador in helping victims of Tropical Storm Agatha. They have gathered their resources and made fresh food for those affected in Puerto Parada. The sellers asked Comandos de Salvamento to help transport the food to shelters while they themselves handed it out. The invaluable labor and collaboration of the San Miguelito Market workers took place over the course of two day trips and they promise to be ready for future emergencies this year by bringing hot food to families in need. During the event, children had the opportunity to break open two piñatas in order to bring happiness to the community. Comandos de Salvamento wants to formally salute and thank the workers of the Mercado de San Miguelito for their availability and kindness. CDS will be ever ready with transport vehicles to help when the need arises.
Comandos de Salvamento volunteers have begun to hand out food donated by NGOs, (ACPP) Asamblea de Cooperación por la Paz de españa and Peoples Norwegian Aid. The families that benefit from this are from the communities of Bajo Lempa, located in the dept. of Usulután and the neighborhood of Ayutuxtepeque, in San Salvador. Items include basic staples of rice, beans, sugar and dried corn for making maicillo-tortilla dough. The bakery Génesis of San Salvador has also made a large donation of “pan dulce” sweet bread which everyone is happy for and brings a smile to any downtrodden face. Comandos wants to salute collaborating international and national ONGs that are working in unison with us in getting storm victims and families their immediate needs of water, food, shelter, and clothing met. EMS crews from Comandos de Salvamento recently evacuated 26 families composed of 96 people in the small village of Joya Grande de Santiago Texacuangos. They were transferred to the Camilo Campos school for shelter. Later that afternoon the Comandos had to use neighboring roads for the evacuation operation due to the main road to Joya Grande being cut off by flooding 3 miles from the entrance. Many other people were evacuated by the National Civilian Police PNC and Comandos de Salvamento via a Boat owned by POLITUR, the tourism police branch of the PNC.
