Many accidents are caused from careless actions of drivers in El Salvador as in other parts of the world. The most common causes are drunk driving, chatting or talking via cell phone, driving at high speeds or while tired. On October 23rd, two drivers were gravely injured due to these same causes. Because of this, one of mottos the Comandos use is “Daddy drive safely, we are waiting for you at home”. This is a strong cultural metaphor to impress the importance of drivers to be safe since Salvadorans are very “pegados” and interdependent within their families. The saying is, “Papito maneja con cuidado, te esperamos en casa”.

The Main Base of CDS is finding itself divided. Some CDS staff are with team Barcelona, but others are on Real Madrid’s side. The problem is that these two top teams of the Spanish League lost the championship. Team El barca lost 2-1 against team Ruso Rubin Kasan, and Real Madrid lost against Milan 3-2 on this last Tuesday and Wednesday.
Watching soccer games on T.V. is like an oasis of entertainment as they passionately celebrate goals and make fun of the losing team. This is one of the few pleasures that volunteers at the Central Base have while taking a break from daily EMS runs in a country that is victim of much violence and pain while El Salvador benefits from the help these volunteers give freely.

Executive Director of the CDS Governing Board, Wilmer Lovo, hands over the keys to Chief Carlos Fuentes, to a vehicle that was donated by the community of Albuquerque New Mexico and will be used for eradication of the Mosquito that carries Dengue. This vehicle will be outfitted with fumigation equipment. CDS are one of the few NGOs that offer this service for free to the community. The Vectores Unit is in charge of fumigation campaigns in local neighborhoods within San Salvador and countryside.
